General Information
School programs at WEEC serve students and teachers from both out-of-district public schools and Decatur City Schools, bp's partner in the development of the center. Information regarding scheduling a school field trip for those school groups can be found on the Field Trip Information web page. Programs geared for the general public and/or for bp employees and their families are held at various times of the year and will be posted on the calendar found at this link: http://www.localendar.com/public/weec
Individuals and/or public groups such as garden clubs, scout troops, birders, etc., and other area private, parochial, or home school groups who wish to use the trails within bp's Wildlife Habitat are asked to contact Harlow Fikes, bp Wildlife Committee Chairperson, at 256-340-5200. Visitors should also refer to the Regulations section in the Visitors' Guide and Visitor FAQs for additional information. As the Homeland Security alert level changes, the availability of the habitat for public use also changes.
To view a map of the habitat and its trails, click on Location. Horses, motorized vehicles of any kind, and bicycles are not allowed on the trails or anywhere within the habitat. Hunting and fishing within the habitat are prohibited. Parking for visitors is available at the environmental center.
Visitors to the habitat are encouraged to practice good stewardship of the environment while enjoying the gifts of nature. There are benches and picnic tables located along the trails for visitor use and convenience. In keeping with our goal of "vanishing without a trace," visitors are requested to properly dispose of trash if the picnic tables are used.
